Exciting developments in local healthcare are underway with the opening of the first phase of the Huddersfield Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), located in the Daphne Steele Building on the National Health Innovation Campus at the University of Huddersfield. This pioneering facility marks the first time such a diagnostic centre has operated on a UK university campus, bringing a wealth of benefits to the local community.

What Does This Mean for Patients?

If you're a patient under the care of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT), you can now be referred by your GP for diagnostic services closer to home. The centre currently offers:

  • Cardiorespiratory tests

  • Ultrasound scans

  • Drop-in phlebotomy clinics

These services are a major step forward in offering patients more convenience, reduced waiting times, and improved access to essential diagnostic procedures—right here in Central Huddersfield.

Building Toward the Future

This initial opening is part of a larger plan that will see a fully developed CDC launched by January 2026 in the adjacent Emily Siddon Building. Once complete, the CDC will offer a wide range of services, including:

  • MRIs, CT scans, and X-rays

  • A tele-dermatology service

  • Expanded diagnostics across various specialities

This enhanced diagnostic capability will help reduce hospital footfall while ensuring patients receive quicker and more accurate results—a significant advancement for Homecare Huddersfield and Homecare Kirklees clients alike.

A Valuable Learning Environment

Beyond clinical services, the CDC also provides an innovative training ground for healthcare students. The partnership between CHFT and the University of Huddersfield allows students to gain hands-on experience in a real clinical setting, working alongside professionals and improving outcomes for patients.

Sarah Shaw, Strategic Lead for Clinical and Wellbeing Services at the university, emphasised the importance of this collaboration:

“It offers a rich learning environment for our students that will be of huge benefit for them.”

Supporting Private and Personal Care in Huddersfield

For families and individuals seeking Private Care in Huddersfield, the opening of the CDC ensures faster access to diagnostic tests, allowing care providers to plan and deliver personalised support with greater precision and speed. Whether you are managing complex needs or coordinating care for a loved one, this facility strengthens the healthcare network across Huddersfield and Kirklees.

Sarah Clenton, Deputy Director of Operations at CHFT, summed it up best:

“The centre will give our patients greater choice, and because we will be able to offer more tests, means people can be diagnosed and treated quicker.”

At Bespoke Care, we champion any development that enhances access to local, high-quality healthcare. This partnership is a major step forward in supporting personal care needs across our region, reinforcing our commitment to delivering award winning care tailored to each individual.
