Our Commitment

At Bespoke Care & Support Services Ltd (BCSS), we believe that every person has the right to work safely, freely, fairly, and with dignity.

We are fully committed to preventing modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking, exploitation, coercion, and abusive employment practices in all areas of our organisation and supply chains.

Modern slavery is not always obvious. It can exist behind closed doors, hidden within poor employment practices, fear, dependency, intimidation, discrimination, financial control, unsafe accommodation arrangements, or abuse of immigration status. We recognise that organisations within health and social care have a responsibility not only to identify these risks, but to actively challenge and prevent them.

BCSS operates a zero-tolerance approach to any form of exploitation.

What This Means in Practice

We are committed to ensuring that:

  • all workers are recruited lawfully and fairly;

  • all staff understand their rights and responsibilities;

  • nobody is pressured, threatened, controlled, or exploited through their employment;

  • all staff are free to leave employment in accordance with their contractual rights;

  • pay, working hours, and conditions comply with UK employment law;

  • sponsored workers are treated fairly, ethically, and in accordance with Home Office guidance;

  • concerns can be raised safely without fear of retaliation;

  • safeguarding concerns, including potential labour exploitation, are acted upon immediately.

Safe Recruitment & Ethical Employment

BCSS maintains robust recruitment, vetting, and workforce governance processes designed to protect both service users and workers.

This includes:

  • Right to Work checks;

  • DBS and ongoing workforce safeguarding checks;

  • reference verification;

  • written contracts and statements of employment particulars;

  • probationary oversight and competency reviews;

  • structured supervision and field observations;

  • whistleblowing protections;

  • safeguarding and Prevent training;

  • clear concerns management and escalation processes.

We do not permit unlawful deductions, confiscation of personal documents, coercive repayment arrangements, or practices designed to create dependency or control over workers.

Sponsored Workers & International Recruitment

BCSS recognises that sponsored workers and migrant workers can be at increased risk of exploitation within the wider care sector.

We are committed to ensuring that all sponsored workers are:

  • treated fairly and lawfully;

  • paid correctly and transparently;

  • supported appropriately throughout employment;

  • provided with clear information about their rights;

  • protected from intimidation, coercion, or discriminatory treatment.

We comply with UK sponsor licence duties and Home Office guidance and expect all managers to uphold both the legal and ethical responsibilities associated with sponsorship.

Safeguarding & Reporting Concerns

Modern slavery is recognised by BCSS as both a safeguarding issue and a human rights issue.

All staff receive safeguarding training which includes recognising signs of abuse, exploitation, coercion, neglect, and modern slavery.

Any concerns relating to:

  • exploitation,

  • forced labour,

  • trafficking,

  • financial control,

  • intimidation,

  • unsafe employment practices,

  • abuse of immigration vulnerability,

  • or unlawful working conditions

will be treated seriously and escalated appropriately.

Where necessary, concerns may be referred to safeguarding authorities, the Local Authority, the Police, the Home Office, or the Modern Slavery Helpline.

Speaking Up

We encourage all staff, service users, relatives, professionals, and members of the public to report concerns.

BCSS operates a Freedom to Speak Up / Whistleblowing approach designed to ensure concerns can be raised safely and confidentially.

No person raising a genuine concern in good faith will be subjected to retaliation or disadvantage for doing so.

Our Wider Values

At BCSS, we believe ethical care cannot exist without ethical employment.

We believe dignity, fairness, equality, and respect apply equally to the people receiving care and the people delivering it.

We are committed to building a workplace culture where exploitation cannot thrive, where concerns are listened to, and where people are treated as human beings first.

Modern slavery has no place in our organisation, our profession, or our communities.
