At Bespoke Care and Support Services, we believe that safeguarding is at the very heart of providing quality care. Whether we are delivering personal care in Central Huddersfield, supporting families with homecare across Kirklees, or offering specialist services for those who need extra help, safeguarding underpins everything we do.
What Does Safeguarding Mean?
Safeguarding is more than just a policy or procedure, it is about protecting a person’s human rights and ensuring they can live safely, free from harm and abuse. It means respecting each individual, involving them in decisions that affect their lives, and creating an environment where they feel safe, valued, and heard.
In simple terms: safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. From care staff to family members and the wider community, we all play a role in looking out for those who may be at risk.
The Six Principles of Safeguarding
Government guidance sets out six key principles that guide safeguarding practice:
Empowerment – Supporting people to make their own choices and give informed consent.
Protection – Offering help and representation to those in greatest need.
Prevention – Acting early to stop harm before it happens.
Proportionality – Responding in the least intrusive way that is appropriate to the risk.
Partnership – Working together with communities and services to protect people.
Accountability – Being transparent and clear in decision-making.
At Bespoke Care, these principles shape the way we deliver our award-winning care in Huddersfield and beyond.
Who is an Adult at Risk?
An “adult at risk” is anyone over 18 who, due to illness, disability, or age, may struggle to protect themselves from harm or exploitation. Safeguarding helps ensure that people in this position are supported, respected, and protected.
Types of Abuse Safeguarding Protects Against
Safeguarding involves recognising and responding to many forms of abuse, including:
Physical abuse
Emotional abuse
Sexual abuse
Neglect
Financial abuse
Discrimination
Institutional abuse
Our teams are trained to spot the signs of abuse and act quickly, ensuring individuals are always safe and supported.
Safeguarding in Action at Bespoke Care
At Bespoke Care, safeguarding is not just a legal duty – it’s part of our culture. We:
Train every member of staff in safeguarding awareness.
Have clear policies and reporting systems in place.
Promote dignity, choice, and respect in every aspect of private care in Huddersfield.
Work in close partnership with the Kirklees Safeguarding Adults Board to keep people safe.
Why Safeguarding Matters
Living a life free from harm is a basic human right. For those who receive homecare in Huddersfield and Kirklees, safeguarding ensures that support is delivered with compassion, respect, and protection.
By embedding safeguarding into every part of our service, we give peace of mind to families and ensure the people we support can live fulfilling, independent lives with dignity.
