On Saturday 7th June, Huddersfield town centre will transform into a vibrant, joyful celebration of LGBTQ+ identity, culture, and community as Kirklees Pride 2025 returns to Queen Street, King Street, and The Piazza. As a proud homecare provider in Huddersfield, Bespoke Care and Support Services is thrilled to stand alongside our LGBTQ+ colleagues, clients, and neighbours in marking this special day.

Huddersfield: The Unsung Hero of UK Pride History

Did you know that Huddersfield was the stage for the UK's first national Pride march? On July 4, 1981, the annual London Pride relocated to our town in a bold act of solidarity. This move was in response to the West Yorkshire Police's targeted harassment of the Gemini Club, a popular gay venue in Huddersfield.

Approximately 2,000 LGBTQ+ activists and allies marched through Huddersfield, transforming the town into the epicenter of queer resistance. The event was not just a protest against local injustices but a declaration that Pride could—and should—resonate beyond the capital.

This historic march was a turning point, demonstrating the power of collective action and setting the stage for Pride events across the UK. Huddersfield's role in this movement is a testament to the town's enduring spirit of inclusivity and resistance.
