At Bespoke Care and Support Services, we’re always eager to spotlight initiatives that bring comfort, community, and joy to those living with dementia. That’s why we’re thrilled to share the news that The Light Cinema in Huddersfield is launching monthly dementia-friendly film screenings, beginning this Thursday 22 May at 1pm with the beloved classic Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.

This initiative, introduced as part of #DementiaActionWeek, offers a thoughtfully adapted cinema experience in the heart of Central Huddersfield. These screenings are carefully designed to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for people with dementia, their families, and carers.

What Makes These Screenings Dementia-Friendly?

  • No adverts or trailers, the film starts promptly, reducing confusion and waiting time.

  • Dimmed lighting remains on throughout the screening, helping guests move around safely if needed.

  • A comfort break will be provided midway through the film.

  • Complimentary drinks and snacks, kindly supplied by the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation, are served before the show, a perfect time to socialise and settle in.

  • Tickets are £5, with carers attending free of charge.

Importantly, while these sessions are tailored for those living with dementia, they are open to all members of the public, making them an inclusive outing for families and friends.

Please note that pastoral care is not provided at the screenings, so guests are asked to attend with a friend, family member or personal care worker who can support them throughout the visit.

A Great Example of Community-Centred Care

As providers of award winning care and private care in Huddersfield and Kirklees, we believe in supporting accessible and inclusive activities like this. Homecare in Kirklees isn't just about providing assistance in the home – it’s also about enabling people to live fully and with dignity, connecting with their community through meaningful experiences.

If you're unable to attend the screening but are seeking support around dementia diagnosis or care, drop-in sessions are being held locally throughout the week. These sessions offer a valuable opportunity to chat with professionals and discover the help available in our area.
